Algarve
The Algarve, a region in southern Portugal known for its stunning beaches and sunny climate, however, also produces excellent quality wines. The region has a long tradition in wine production, although it has sometimes been overshadowed by other wine regions in Portugal, such as Douro or Alentejo. However, in recent years, there has been a noticeable increase in interest in Algarve wines, with local producers investing in modern techniques and grape varieties.
The most common grape varieties grown in the Algarve include the reds Castelão, Negra Mole, Syrah and Touriga Nacional, as well as the whites Arinto, Antão Vaz and Verdelho. The wines produced in the region range from fresh and fruity whites to full-bodied and complex reds, as well as rosés and fortified wines.
If you have the opportunity to visit the Algarve, many wineries offer tastings and guided tours, providing a unique experience for wine lovers.
